Green Flag Award 2024

I am delighted that Okehampton Town Council, parkkeeper James McGahey, his staff and volunteers have been rewarded for their management and hard work in Simmons Park by being accredited with the internationally recognised Green Flag award.

I am particularly pleased that is Green Flag (Community) which means it’s not only celebrated as a well maintained, natural, ecologically sympathetic and in places manicured park, but for the part it plays in Okehampton’s community life.

It’s play areas, walks, bandstand and games areas, promotes health and well-being, while the open space in natures amphitheatre, hosting fairs, fetes and national celebrations, promote community spirit and cohesion.

The award is something that Okehampton should be proud of and which I’m sure will spur us all on to maintain, improve and in turn, retain the accolade for years to come.

Well done everyone, well done Okehampton

Fantastic news - Simmons Park has been awarded 'Much Loved' status in the Fields in Trust UK Best Park 2019 awards, having been placed within the top 20% of nominations UK-wide.

In total, 28 parks across the South West were nominated; Page Park in Bristol chosen as the best park in this region and 3 others achieving the 'Much Loved' status including our beautiful Simmons Park.

A big thank-you to those who took the time to vote for and support the park.
